Default Tweeter- "20% to 50% Off Everything"

We’re not sure if it’s because Black Friday is coming up, or just because it had to accelerate its liquidation, but Tweeter’s website homepage changed this week to make a big splash about the clearance sales going on.
“Store Closing Prices Slashed Again, Everything 20 to 50% off!” now greets you when you click on Tweeter.com.
The ad reminds us that Tweeter has some pretty sweet brands, if you’re looking for deals—Cambridge Audio, Focal, MartinLogan, Klipsch and more.
The only problem might be finding some products left in the store to snag. We checked in at the local Tweeter and found the main floor pretty much a ghost town except for the flat-panel TVs lining the walls. Those fell into the 20 percent off category—at least for now.
Looks like the better deals might be in the speakers and wire/cables if you’re trying to focus on your audio setup. But you better take a drive over to your nearest Tweeter pretty soon because it seems just about every day is Black Friday there now.

I wonder if it's worth a look. if it's only 20%, that would be 20% off retail which would still be higher than online stores. But 50% off retail would be a good deal.

Retailers: Tweeter Closes All Stores, by Rachel Cericola - Electronic House Product News

Quote:
December 02, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola
If you were planning to swing by your local Tweeter to see what bargains were left to be had, don’t bother.

While many were griping that the deals weren’t all that great, now there is a bigger problem: a big padlock. It seems that all of the remaining stores are closed effective immediately—just days before the specialty retailer had planned to shutter its doors nationwide. Twice says the decision is part of Tweeter’s plan to move from Chapter 11 to Chapter 7.

Tweeter had filed for bankruptcy protection early last month. Just days before, we heard that the store had been sold to liquidators. Since then, the retailer had been trying to unload some of its inventory at a discount.

The status of existing orders or employees is unknown. Twice’s story cites Michael Simon, a manager of Sound Advice in Fort Meyers, Fla. Simon says that staffers can say goodbye to any promised bonuses and unused vacation time.

Tweeter has not released any official announcements or statements
Wow! This is pretty bad. Although I feel they shot themselves in the foot somewhat. Their problem, IMO, was that they were extremely expensive. I know they sold mostly high-end gear but they simply could not compete with the big box electronic stores like BB and CC.

Sad. The higher end stores are going out of business like this more and more. I don't know how they can compete with stores like Best Buy and such.

Speaking of big-box stores, when is Circuit City closing all their stores?

they are in bankruptcy, reorganization right now. Only 3 stores in my area closed. The other dozens of stores are still open. I've actually purchased a bunch of stuff from them since they had 24 months no interest. The product is still good and the manufacturer warranty is still intact, plus I have two years to pay it off with no interest.

Although I wish they had the new Sony digital camera that can also record HD video. I would have purchased that with 8% off and no interest, but they didn't have them.

Tweeter, formerly Sound Advice in my area, was a complete high-end electronics store. Their prices were absurdly high and I can see why they are in the position they are in right now.

The only item I purchased from Tweeter was one of my VUDU boxes at the beginning of this year. Otherwise the prices were higher than even some of the local electronics merhcants.
