According to a report from NPD Group unit DisplaySearch, consumers purchased 147,000 stand-alone Blu-ray Disc players during the week of Thanksgiving, which includes the popular Black Friday. These sales generated $30 Million in revenue (averaging to a little more than $200 per player), which was triple from a year ago even though prices have significantly dropped.

Additionally, 25% of all optical disc players purchase were of the Blu-ray format, up 6% from a year ago. By the end of the shopping season, manufacturers will ship 911,000 Blu-ray Disc players during the fourth quarter, for a total of 2.2 Million players on the year.

These numbers do not include the Sony PS3, which is one of the most popular Blu-ray Disc players on the market.

Here's some more good news. When I attended the BB Midnight launch of TDK, absolutely everyone (probably about 15 people) was in line to purchase the BR edition of the copy. I saw no one going for the DVD...

They certainly had no shortage of copies when I picked mine up from BB. That was the last time I use instore pickup. I had to wait 25 minutes. If I hadn't used my reward zone dollars I would have picked one up from the shelf and been out of the store in only a few minutes.
I wasn't sure what would happen to my reward zone dollars if I let the order get canceled for non pickup.
The BestBuy in store pickup sucks at my local store.

I was there at the midnight launch and the majority was there for the blu-ray, but it wasn't a vast majority. Also, the worker I talked to said they got like 500 copies of the blu-ray overall.
